JAI HO Music Review

Director :      Sohail Khan
Music :      Sajid-Wajid, Amal Mallik and Devi Sri Prasad
Lyrics :      Sameer Anjaan, Kausar Munir, Sajid, Irfan Kamal, Danish Sabri and Armaan Malik
Starring :      Salman Khan, Tabu, Daisy Shah, Sana Khan, Ashmit Patel, Vatsal Sheth, Yash Tonk , Mukul Dev, Danny Denzongpa and Santosh Shukla

Box office's favourite child Salman Khan's next, JAI HO, brings his regular composers Sajid-Wajid back in action, along with the fresh and talented third generation Mallik, Amal Mallik. The trio (Sajid-Wajid and Salman) has always touched the hearts of the common man, the aam janta through some massy, chartbusting music. And since the film itself has politics at its forefront with the 'aam janta' as the hero and is topical in nature, one expects the songs to be along that line. So let's see if Sajid wajid  (and Amal Mallik) can come up with songs that aid the narrative and deliver another chartbusting performance.

The topical 'Baki Sab First Class Hai' sums up the socio-economic and political scenario prevailing in our country in a first class manner, Salman Khan ishtyle! Wajid modulates his vocals giving it that hoarse, screaming shrill pitch to convey the message of disgruntlement, anger and despair. The lyrics are topical and well penned and give an insight into the film.

The remix version of 'Baki Sab First Class Hai' has added rhythm and beats.

Sajid-Wajid have come up with chartbusting 'Naina/nain' songs in all films after DABANGG's 'Tere Mast Mast Do Nain', and the latest on the same line is 'Tere Naina Maar Hi Daalengein', though this is getting a tad boring. Shreya along with Shaan render the number and Shadab Sabri comes in with the 'qawwali' portions.

'Photocopy' is a Gujarati folk based average fun number. The songs starts off in manner quite similar to 'Manmohini'' (HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM) but later the song changes track and gets into its own zone. Keerthi Sagathia and Palak Muchal and Himesh Reshammiya do the honours.

'Photocopy' remix is well done and makes for a good repeat here.

The third generation Mallik, young composer Amal Mallik comes up with the love ballad 'Tumko To Aana Hi Tha' which would have been better titled 'Love You Till The End'. The number has a nice fusion of Indian and western influences though one deciphers a hint of Celine Dion's 'I Will Always Love You' (TITANIC). Armaan Malik's fresh vocals along with Marianne D'Cruz's anglicized ones and Altamash Faridi's classic 'alaaps' all conjure up a nice romantic track.

'Love You Till The End' House Mix is an all English romantic number sung by Armaan Mailk and so the Indian influences that were present in 'Tumko To Aana Hi Tha' is missing here and is a nice deviation from the original.

Famous South Indian composer Devi Sri Prasad (of 'Dhinka Chika' READY fame) 'Nacho Re' is a multi-layered dance number, right from semi-classical, to all filmy and western and rock. But does it have the potential to become another 'Dhinka Chika'? No! Singer Ujjayni renders the song well.

It's very difficult, in fact almost preposterous to compose a song titled 'jai Ho' after music wizard A.R. Rahman's Oscar winning ''Jai Ho'' (SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE), that became a global anthem and still remains! But young composer, Amal Mallik, deserves a pat on the back for taking up the challenge and doing it quite well. 'Jai Jai Jai Ho' is the combined efforts of a host of artists like Wajid, Armaan Malik, Brijesh Shandliya and Amal Mallik himself, and is nice, inspirational title track, but certainly not an anthem in the making.

Summing up, the album of JAI HO has some nice songs, some situational, others romantic. However that one chartbuster (sometimes even two!) that's always present in all Salman Khan-Sajid-Wajid albums is missing here. 'Baki Sab First Class Hai' and 'Jai Ho' title track are our picks. However even without chartbusters, Salman Khan's JAI HO will certainly open to packed houses when it releases all over on 24th January 2014.
