Early life and education

1. Salman Khan is the eldest son of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife Sushila Charak. His paternal grandfather was a Muslim from Afghanistan who immigrated to India and settled in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

2. Khan's mother is Maharashtrian. His stepmother is Helen, a former actress, who has co-starred with him in a few films. He has two brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, and two sisters, Alvira and Arpita. Alvira is married to actor/director Atul Agnihotri.

3. Khan finished his schooling at St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai, as did his younger brothers Arbaaz and Sohail. Earlier, he studied at The Scindia School, Gwalior for a few years along with younger brother Arbaaz.

Personal life

1. He lives in Galaxy Apartments, Bandra, Mumbai. He also has a 150 acre plot in Panvel, which has 3 bungalows, swimming pool and gym. Khan is a dedicated bodybuilder. He has a 42-inch chest, 17-inch biceps and a 30-inch waist.

2. Khan has never married. In 1999, he began dating Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai; their relationship was often reported in the media until the couple separated in 2001. Khan started dating actress Katrina Kaif but after years of speculations, Kaif admitted in an interview in 2011 that she was in a serious relationship with Salman Khan for several years, which ended in 2010.

1989–93: Debut and breakthrough

1. He is the son of actor and screenwriter Salim Khan, Khan began his acting career with Biwi Ho To Aisi but it was his second film Maine Pyar Kiya  in which he acted in a lead role that garnered him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.



2. Salman Khan made his acting debut with a supporting role in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi in which his voice was dubbed by someone else His first leading role in a Bollywood Movies  was in Sooraj R. Barjatya's romantic family drama Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), one of India's highest grossing films. It earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut, as well as his first nomination for a Best Actor at FILMFARE.

Later the film was dubbed in English as When Love Calls, a 125-minute version, was the biggest hit in the Caribbean market at Guyana and also dominated the box-office collections at Trinidad and Tobago. 2009–present: commercial success

19. 2009 marked a significant turning point in Khan's career.Starting with Wanted, directed by choreographer turned director Prabhu Deva became a boxoffice success and earned superhit status. In the same year, he appeared in two other films, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and London Dreams. While London Dreams doing average business, only due to the uninspiring music, but Main Aurr Mrs Khanna was a commercial failure. Khan's first release of 2010 was Anil Sharma's commercially and critically unsuccessful film Veer.

His next release, Dabangg was released on Eid, 10 September 2010.Khan played the role of a fearless cop with comic effect in the film.It opened to generally positive reviews and broke several box-office records upon release. It was later remade in Tamil and Telugu, The film was produced by his brother Arbaaz Khan, and released on 10 September 2010. It made a record opening at the box office and Box Office India declared it an all-time blockbuster. Dabangg at that time was the second and now the fourh highest-grossing Bollywood film and for his performance, Khan received a Star Screen Award for Best Actor and a Stardust Award for Star of the Year – Male and was nominated for his sixth Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He inhabits it fully, strutting and swaggering and even, spoofing himself."

Khan's first release of 2011 was Ready.Upon release, Ready became the second highest opening day grosser, as well as the second highest weekend grossing Bollywood film at that time, after Dabangg, another Salman Khan-starrer. It also held records for being the second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2011. He next appeared in Bodyguard,a remake of the 2010 Malayalam film of the same name.The film was not well received by critics, though became a financial success, with a domestic total of 1,409.5 million (US$26 million)—India's highest-earning film of the year.

23. 2012 was a prolific year for Khan.His first release of 2012 was Ek Tha Tiger where Khan starred opposite Katrina Kaif and act as Indian Spy.The film garnered positive to mixed reactions from criticswhilst opening to extremely strong box office collections. The film went on to break the opening day boxofice record with a collection of INR312.3 million (US$4.8 million) and became the second Bollywood film to gross over INR3 billion (US$46 million) worldwide behind only 3 Idiots with an eventual gross of INR3.1 billion (US$47 million). Salman Khan's 2nd release of 2012 is Dabangg 2 which is a sequel of his blockbuster Dabangg under production of Arbaaz Khan.Upon release,the film netted an excellent INR192.1 million (US$2.9 million) on its opening day and became the biggest opener for a non-holiday Friday in India, beating the previous record held by Don 2. and collected INR582.6 million (US$8.9 million), beating the previous three-day record set by Ek Tha Tiger. Salman Khan was associated as a brand when he done the advertisement of Hero Honda bikes and Double Bull shirts, much before he entered film Industry. Even after he became a superstar, he never showed interest in promoting himself as a brand, but he was signed for Thums Up in 2002 and continued until its contract was over. Philanthropy

Khan has been involved in several charities during his career. He has started an NGO called Being Human which will sell T-shirts and other products online and in stores. A portion of the sales will go to a worthy cause supporting the underprivileged. Being Human Foundation is a registered charitable trust set up by Salman Khan for helping the cause of the underprivileged. In its early days, Salman Khan set up and funded the Foundation using his own money. The Foundation has two focus areas: Education and Healthcare. To increase the reach and corpus of the Foundation, Salman Khan has undertaken initiatives such as Being Human Art; Being Human merchandise; and Being Human Gitanjali Gold Coins.

In 2011, he launched his own production company called SKBH Productions (Salman Khan Being Human Productions). Money which will be generated from film productions will be donated to Being Human. First film made under the banner was kids entertainer Chillar Party, which went on to win 3 National Awards, for Best Children's film, best original screenplay and Child Artist's Award .

In January 2012, Khan has offered to pay INR4 million (US$61,000) for releasing around 400 prisoners from around 63 prisons in the state of Uttar Pradesh via his NGO. The prisoners had completed their term but due to economical reasons, they were unable to pay a legal fine for their charges.


Health issues

In August 2011, Khan admitted he suffers from trigeminal neuralgia, a facial nerve disorder commonly known as the "suicide disease". In an interview, he said that he has been quietly suffering it for the past seven years, but now the pain has become unbearable. It has even affected his voice, making it much harsher.

Religious views

Khan belongs to Pathan Muslim family through his father, and his family celebrate Islamic and Hindu festivals such as Maha Shivaratri and Ganesh Chaturthi. In 2010, Khan said that he is "half-Muslim and half-Hindu".

Controversies

Khan has been the subject of several controversies, including certain legal troubles.

Hit-and-run case

On 28 September 2002, Khan was arrested for rash and negligent driving. His car had run into a bakery in Mumbai; one person who was sleeping on the pavement outside the bakery died and three others were injured in the mishap. Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped. On 24 July 2013, he was formally charged with culpable homicide in the case, to which he pleaded not guilty. The trial is scheduled to begin on 19 August.

Relationship with Aishwarya Rai

His relationship with actress Aishwarya Rai was a well publicised topic in the Indian media. After their break-up in March 2002, Rai accused him of harassing her. She claimed that Khan had not been able to come to terms with their break-up and was hounding her; her parents lodged a complaint against him. In 2005, news outlets released what was said to be an illicit copy of a mobile phone call recorded in 2001 by the Mumbai police. It appeared to be a call in which he threatened Rai, in an effort to force her to appear at social events held by Mumbai crime figures. The call featured boasts of connections to organised crime and derogatory comments about other actors. However, the alleged tape was tested in the government's Forensic lab in Chandigarh, which concluded that it was fake.

Black Buck hunting case

On 17 February 2006, Khan was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting the Chinkara, an endangered species. The sentence was stayed by a higher court during appeal. On 10 April 2006, he was handed a five-year jail term and remanded to Jodhpur jail until 13 April when he was granted bail. On 24 July 2012, Rajasthan High Court finalised charges against Salman Khan and his other colleagues in the endangered black buck killing case, paving way for start of the trial.

Remarks about 26/11 attacks

On September 2010, Khan was reported to have claimed during an interview to a Pakistani channel that the 26/11 attacks got a lot of attention because the "elite" were targeted. During the interview the actor had said – "It was the elite that was targeted this time. Five star hotels and stuff. So they panicked. Then they got up and spoke about it. My question is why not before. Attacks have happened in trains and small towns too, but no one talked about it so much." Khan also said that Pakistan was not to be blamed for it, and that the Indian security forces had failed. Khan's comments had drawn strong reactions from Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Chagan Bhujbal, Shiv Sena, BJP and other political parties. The comments were also condemned by Ujwal Nikam, Special Prosecutor in the 26/11 trial. Khan later apologised for his comments.

Latest reports reveal that Bollywood superstar Salman Khan all set to produce Bigg Boss season 8! Although it is still not clear whether or not, he will be back as the host for the next season of Bigg Boss.



This season’s Bigg Boss received a lot of coverage and raked in TRP’s in abundance with the love affairs and fights of the inmates of the house. With every season getting bigger and better, for Salman to want to produce the show seems rather justified.

1. Anil Kapoor was born on 24 December 1956 in chembur Mumbai, India. He is the son of film producer Surinder Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor.

2. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School - Chembur, in the Chembur suburb of Mumbai, and then St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. Anil Kapoor's elder brother Boney Kapoor, is a film producer, while younger brother Sanjay Kapoor, is also an actor. He is also the brother-in-law to Bollywood actress Sridevi.

3. In 1984 he married Sunita Kapoor (nee Bhambhani). He has two daughters and a son Harshvardhan. Anil Kapoor's elder daughter is actress Sonam Kapoor. His younger daughter Rhea Kapoor attended school in New York  and is now a producer in Mumbai.

4. Anil Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Umesh Mehra's Hamare Tumhare (1979) in a small role. 23. In his 2003 release, Calcutta Mail, he delivered one of his best performances. His character was defined with ample scope to perform in this screenplay-driven performance and in spite of the strong supporting cast, this really came out as Kapoor's one-man show.

24. He ignited the silver screen with an authoritative performance in Musafir.Kapoor gave an incredibly restrained performance as the stricken husband in the thriller My Wife's Murder, which he also produced.

25. Anees Bazmee's super-hit comedy No Entry (2005), followed for Kapoor that year. The film went on to become the highest grossing film of the year. He was also in the film Bewafaa, playing a rich businessman who is forced to marry the sister of his wife after she passes away in childbirth.

26. Kapoor played a grey character with finesse in the 2005 thriller, Chocolate. Anil's first release of 2007 Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love was a box office hit in overseas though a flop in India.

27. Anees Bazmee's Welcome, which released on 21 December 2007 and was declared the biggest success of the year. Kapoor's understated performance in Subhash Ghai's Black and White was highly lauded. His first release in 2008, Abbas Mustan's thriller, Race became a box office hit. Vijay Krishna Acharya's, Tashan marked Anil's comeback to Yash Raj Films but failed to do well at the box office.

28. His most recent films were his first English language film, Slumdog Millionaire, which was released on 12 November 2008, and Yuvvraaj, which was released on 21 November 2008. Yuvvraaj, with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles, failed to do well at the box office. On the other hand, Slumdog Millionaire has won a number of international awards and received rave reviews from critics, costing only US $15 million to produce, but pulling in more than $352 million worldwide.

29. In January 2009, he attended the 66th Golden Globe Awards ceremony along with the team of Slumdog Millionaire, which won four Golden Globe Awards. 2010s

30. In 2010, Kapoor starred in the eighth season of the American television series 24, portraying Omar Hassan, President of the fictional Islamic Republic of Kamistan. In October of that year he was cast to play a villain in both Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (released in December 2011) and Power.

31. Power was to be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi but was shelved due to unknown reasons. Other projects that he currently has in the pipeline include Cities (a Hollywood project co-starring Clive Owen and Orlando Bloom), Mr. India 2, the sequel to No Entry, Race 2 and Sanjay Gupta's Shootout at Wadala. He had also signed Khiladi 786, which released in December 2012 but did not appear in it eventually.

32. Anil Kapoor's only release of 2012 Tezz earned him favorable reviews from critics.According to critic Taran Adarsh "It's a treat watching Anil Kapoor on screen. Though the actor has been an integral part of so many movies in the past, you can never accuse him of repeating himself. Besides, he may be in his early 50s, but that hasn't deterred Anil from performing the high-octane action stunts with flourish".

Producing :

1. In 2002, Kapoor produced his first film, the comedy Badhaai Ho Badhaai, in which he also starred in. It was followed by My Wife's Murder (2005), and Gandhi, My Father (2007). Gandhi, My Father focuses on the relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal Gandhi (2007) and was awarded the National Film Award – Special Jury Award / Special Mention. He produced the movie Shortkut: The Con Is On starring Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi.

2. In 2010, he produced Aisha (2010 film) , starring his daughter Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in the lead roles. The film performed moderately at the box office, grossing Rs. 155 million in its theatrical run. He has acquired the remake rights for the American TV success, 24, reportedly for an amount of INR 1 billion. It took him about 1.5 years to license the rights to create an Indian rendition of the popular TV show. Kapoor will be stepping in the protagonist's (Jack Bauer) role as well. Kapoor played the role of President Hassan in the 8th season of the original series aired on Fox Network.

Singing

1. Anil Kapoor has on rare occasions contributed to the soundtracks of his movies, as a singer. One of his first playback songs was the title track of the 1986 Bollywood comedy Chameli Ki Shaadi.

2.. He is also credited on the song "I Love You" from Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai.

Anil Kapoor's first role in an international film was in Danny Boyle's (2008) Academy Award – winning film Slumdog Millionaire, for which he shared the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. His performance in the eighth season of the action series 24 generated rave reviews from the American press. Globally, Anil Kapoor is one of the most recognised Indian actors. In 2008, Kapoor provided a rhyme-like-dialogue to introduce his character in Yashraj's Tashan. His theme was titled "Bhaiyaji ka Tashan". Forever 24: Anil Kapoor on 57th b'day

Mumbai, Dec 23  for actor  Anil Kapoor, who will turn 57 Tuesday, 2013 has been a fabulous year. And the 'ever-grin' Bollywood actor-star's smile just got bigger and brighter during the year, mainly because of his successful TV show "24".

"The number 24 has proved lucky for me. My serial '24', which just concluded, has been received with incredible enthusiasm. Now on my birthday on Dec 24 I feel I am 24 years old," said Anil on the eve of his birthday from Dubai.

"There is so much to do. And I want to do it all. I feel like a child in a toy store. I want everything, and I want it now,"

However, for his birthday Anil is flying back from Dubai to Jaipur, Rajasthan, where his two daughters are shooting.

"Sonam has done very well for herself in 2013. Two of her films 'Raanjhanaa' and 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' were superhits and she established herself as an actress of substance.

"My other daughter Rhea has gone on to produce her second film. In fact, Sonam was shooting for Rhea's 'Khubsoorat' in Bikaner. Now they're moving to Jaipur where I'll be joining them for my birthday. So will the rest of my family. So it's one big happy family birthday for me. I wouldn't want it any other way."

The birthday celebrations don't end in Jaipur. On 27th Anil flies back to Dubai for a long-due holiday.

"All my friends from all over the world are joining me here in Dubai after I return on 27th. We'll just relax. I've been working really hard in 2013. My serial '24' kept me on my toes," said the star of films like "Tezaab", "Viraasat" and "Judaai".

Dhoom 3 Review

‘Dhoom 3’ is one of the most anticipated sequels in the year 2013, and the reason is Aamir Khan. Not for a moment does the director Vijay Krishna Acharya forget that. It’s an Aamir fiesta all the way!

Iqbal (Jackie Shroff), a magician and modern circus owner, has a huge debt from a popular American bank, Western Chicago Bank, in the 1990s. After his only dream – ‘The Great Indian Circus’- is broken, Iqbal commits suicide. Aamir Khan, who plays his son Sahir, decides to avenge his father’s death by making sure that the bank closes down due to repeated robberies. What leaves the police perplexed is how the robber manages to escape every single time pulling off fantastic bike stunts and appearing out of nowhere. The only clue he leaves is a note in Hindi on the walls of the bank he has looted.

Then come, two cops (Jai and Ali) from India to solve this series of robberies in Chicago. To reveal any more would be to give away spoilers. All that can be added is, Sahir has some great tricks up his sleeve and the movie’s plot enthrals owing to these very twists.

The back story is well established by the writer and it delivers all the action and the speed that the ‘Dhoom’ franchise promises. The stunts on the bike and even in the circus scenes are very well made and shot. The technical team should also be lauded for seamless special effects. All the action sequences, especially the introduction scene and the climax are gripping and you wouldn’t even risk blinking, just in case you miss something. It must be pointed out that though the influence of the Hollywood is there in the movie, but the stunt direction looks original and keeps the Bollywood masala intact.

Acharya has made sure that the star power of Aamir is never underutilized and the superstar has given it all. His expressions and the shift in the character’s body language are intriguing and you realise why he is called a perfectionist. The sensitive and acting centric movies are Aamir’s main strength, but roles like this prove that he can be a tough competition to the other Khans if he comes round to doing more commercial cinema.

For instance the ‘Dhoom Tap’ dance sequence has been choreographed very well, and although Khan is not better than Hrithik, he has done a fairly good job with it. ‘Malang, touted to be the most expensive song sequence shot in Bollywood, has excellent acrobatics by both Katrina and Aamir.

Abhishek and Uday did not get as big an ear splitting welcome as Aamir, but they kept the audience happy during the most crucial parts of the movie – the chase sequences. The film slacks in the second half when Aamir-Katrina love sequence is being played out. But, it picks up speed again in the last 45 minutes or so. The writers have managed to space out all the twists and action throughout the movie even though it seems that the editing could have been tauter.

The movie has its flaws; there are times when you wish that the emotions could have been done away with. Uday Chopra and Katrina Kaif have little to do with the movie. Katrina looks stunning in every scene but the script offered her nothing more. Uday has his moments as the comic relief. The second half does tend to annoy a bit, and the only big dampener one might feel is that the movie runs a little too long - almost for 3 hours.

‘Dhoom 3’ manages to deliver a typically Bollywood revenge saga in a modern way. The suspense and the emotional quotient added to the speed and stunts make the movie as spectacular as it promises to be. Acharya brings to the audience an enthralling script and executes it equally well. The movie is sure to keep you hooked; go and watch it for Aamir!

Katrina Kaif Birthday

Katrina Kaif was born on 16 July 1983 in Hong Kong

Some Unknown facts about her:

1. Indian Kashmiri father, Mohammed Kaif, and an English mother, Susanna Turquotte, who is a British citizen. Her parents divorced when she was very young. Kaif once stated, "My dad, unfortunately, and not out of choice, has had no influence on our upbringing, on our religious or social or moral bearings". When she came to India, she changed her surname to that of her father's, Kaif, because it was Indian in origin.

2. Furthermore, Ayesha Shroff, producer of her first film, has maintained that the actress's original name is Katrina Turquotte. She also claims that they gave her the Indian father and also the surname Kaif after cricketer Mohammad Kaif as he was on top at that time. She adds that they also had thought her naming Katrina Kazi. Kaizad Gustad, director of her first film Boom, maintains that Kaif was a name he conjured up after Katrina was selected at an audition at a Pali Hill hotel in Mumbai.

3. From Hong Kong, she and her family moved to China, and then to Japan. From there she went to France when she was 8, and thereafter lived for a few months at a time in Switzerland, Poland, Germany, Belgium, and other European countries. Then she moved with her family to Hawaii and eventually to her mother's home country of England. Although it is often assumed that Kaif is from London, she lived there only for three years before moving to Mumbai. As a British citizen, she works in India on an employment visa.

4. Kaif's personal life, including her romantic relationships, has been a great subject to the media. After years of speculations Katrina Kaif admitted in a 2011 magazine interview that she had been in a serious relationship with actor Salman Khan Salman Khan for several years, which ended in 2010.

Modelling and film debut (1997–2003)

1. Kaif first expressed interest in a modelling career at the age of fourteen, when she won a beauty contest in Hawaii, and subsequently received her first assignment as a model—a jewellery campaign. Kaif continued modelling in London, where she worked for various freelance agencies. She also featured regularly at the London Fashion Week. Her appearance at a fashion show attracted the attention of London-based filmmaker Kaizad Gustad, who selected her for a role in the English / Hindi erotic heist film Boom, alongside an ensemble cast consisting of Amitabh Bachhan, Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff, Madhu Sapre and Padma Lakshmi. Whilst shooting for the film in India, Kaif began receiving other offers, and decided to stay in the country. She soon established a successful modelling career there after endorsing prominent brands like Coca-Cola, LG, Fevicol and Samsung. Kaif also gained recognition after walking the ramp for Rohit Bal at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2003. Adarsh Gutpta, executive director of Liberty Shoes (co-sponsor of the show) opined that "her professionalism has been truly amazing [...] it is her uninhibited sensibility that I think makes Katrina the perfect choice for advertising lifestyle products."

Breakthrough and initial success (2005–2006)

4. After the failure of her first Bollywood venture, Kaif took on a Telugu film Malliswari. Namastey London and commercial success (2007–2008)

1. The year 2007 brought about a change in Kaif's acting career, when she appeared in four films, all of which were successful at the box office. In an interview with Businessofcinema.com, Kaif opined that her starring role in Vipul Shah's romantic comedy Namastey London marked an important milestone. She used her experiences in London as a reference point for her role as a spoilt British Indian girl who is intent on marrying her self-centred British boyfriend despite her parent's reproach. Critics were divided in the film itself, though Kaif's performance attracted favourable reviews. Verma mentions that she "suits the role to the T," adding that "the actress brings the zingy mix of her character alive with style and substance." She next appeared in a supporting role for the Anil Sharma-directed melodramatic sports film Apne, that featured Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Kirron Kher and Shilpa Shetty in prominent roles. After Apne, she reunited with director David Dhawan for the comedy Partner (the unofficial remake of Hitch), where she starred alongside Salman Khan, Govinda and Lara Dutta. Despite these films doing well at the box office, Kaif's roles were overlooked as the general perception from critics was that the films did not allow "much for the women to do" and that Kaif was "nothing more than [a] glamourous prop" in her appearances.

2. The following year, Kaif collaborated with Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy for Abbas-Mustan's action thriller Race. The film follows the story of two stepbrothers-turned-rivals who are in contention of their father's insurance payment. Kaif enacted the role of Ranveer's (Khan) double-crossing secretary and his stepbrother's (Khanna) lover. Race continued Kaif's slew of successes, though Kazmi noted that "Katrina is too pale as the blousy secretary who comes into her own only when she gets seductive with a `Touch me, kiss me' tenor." She was more appreciative of the film, praising its "super cool look [and] testosterone-high action sequences." Kaif was next seen in Anees Bazmee's action comedy Singh Is Kinng, as Akshay Kumar's love interest and Ranvir Shorey's fiancée. 3. Kaif's final release of the year, the Subhash Ghai-directed drama Yuvvraaj, was a major failure at the box office. The film narrates the story of three estranged brothers—Deven (Salman Khan), Danny (Zayed Khan) and Gyanesh (Anil Kapoor), and the attempts of the former two into scamming money from their mentally ill brother. To prepare for her role as a cello player, Kaif practised playing the instrument alongside orchestra members. Her portrayal of a girl forbidden by her father from marrying her poor lover, received generally positive reviews; Sonia Chopra of Sify opined that "Katrina is wonderful, plays the cello convincingly, and looks ethereal." During this period, Kaif's voice was often dubbed by dubbing artists such as Mona Ghosh Shetty, since she was inarticulate in Hindi and other Indian languages.Whilst Kaif was a part of a string of successful movies at this stage, film critics observed that she had little to do as her films were generally male-centric. New York and other roles (2009–2011)

2.After a string of films in which she was cast merely for her glamour quotient, Kaif's role in the 2009 terrorism drama New York brought her recognition for her acting. The Kabir Khan-directed film narrated the story of three friends and how their lives are changed when one of them is wrongly detained after 9/11. Cast alongside John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kaif portrayed the character of Maya, a college student who is later married to a terrorist. On her role, Kaif remarked that she identified with Maya as she felt similar isolation whilst growing up in London because of her skin colour. Kaif further opined that she had "played the arm candy in one too many films in the past" and was looking to work in more "performance oriented" films like New York. The film did well at the box office and received positive reviews. Subhash K. Jha mentions that Kaif "comes into her own as an actress of substance," adding that "[f]rom the carefree effervescent campus girl to the anguished wife, Katrina makes the journey look plausible all the way." New York earned Kaif her first Filmfare nomination for Best Actress. She also appeared in a cameo for India's first underwater thriller Blue.

Before release, it was largely speculated that Kaif's character was based on Sonia Gandhi, though this was denied by Kaif. The film met with predominantly positive reviews, though some critics complained about its poor depiction of women, saying that they are all merely "destined" to be "pregnant." The picture received a total collection of INR1.4 billion (US$21 million) at the box office, and emerged as a blockbuster. Kaif earned generally favourable reviews for her portrayal; Kazmi mentioned that Kaif is "carefree and camera-unconscious." 1. In 2011, she was seen alongside Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin in Zoya Akhtar's coming-of-age dramedy Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The film narrates the story of three friends on a bachelor trip, and how the workaholic nature of one of these friends is overcome with the help of Laila (Kaif). The movie emerged as a major commercial success, with worldwide earnings of INR1.53 billion (US$23 million). It was also well received by critics; Pratim D. Gupta of The Telegraph remarked that the film is "beautifully scripted," whilst Mayank Shekhar said that the picture boasted of some "memorable, amusing moments." In addition, Kaif's role as the fun-loving diving instructor was appreciated, with Richard Kuipers of Variety commenting that she is "delightful as the sweet-natured girl who inspires everyone to look in the mirror and do something about it." She next featured in Yash Raj Films' romantic comedy Mere Brother Ki Dulhan opposite Imran Khan and Ali Zafar. Kaif described her role of vivacious punk rock girl Dimple Dixit as challenging because the character had contrasting personality traits to herself.Whilst the film earned mixed reviews, Kaif was extensively praised for her portrayal. Gaurav Malani of The Economic Times published that the film is watchable because of "Katrina's live-wire energy wherein she never goes overboard and keeps bustling with vivacity through the runtime." Trade analysts also credited the film's box office success to Kaif—who had a heroine-centric role in the film—and reflected that it was the first time she had carried a film on her own shoulders. For her performance, Kaif also received her second Filmfare nomination in the Best Actress category.

1. In 2012, Kaif first appeared in an immensely popular item song for Agneepath entitled "Chikni Chameli." The song was shot over ten days and saw her dance to a type of Maharashtrian folk dance called Lavani. Kaif commented on the song: "It was hard work. It was very fast and it was not a style I was used to, but I took it as a challenge [...] I am happy people are liking it." She next appeared in Kabir Khan's espionage thriller Ek Tha Tiger as Zoya, an ISI agent who falls in love with an Indian RAW agent. The film received predominantly positive reviews, with Aniruddha Guha of Daily News and Analysis calling the movie "smart and stylish."
Kaif was appreciated for her action quotient, as well as her performance; Shubhra Gupta of the The Indian Express wrote that she is "an able, animated foil to Salman, her long legs making her leaps and kicks credible," and added that "she brings the right degree of playfulness" to her character. The pairing of Kaif with Khan (her ex-boyfriend) resulted in much hype, and the film was hugely successful at the box office; with worldwide earnings of INR3.1 billion (US$47 million), the film became the third highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time.

2. Kaif's next appearance was for Yash Chopra's swan song, the romance Jab Tak Hai Jaan, in which she featured alongside Shah Rukh Khan  and Anushka Sharma. On working with Chopra, Kaif remarked that "Yashji undoubtedly is the king of romance and I have always admired the way he presents his heroines. It was always a dream to work with him and the reality is even better." Kaif portrayed Meera, a woman who makes a promise with God to end her rendezvous with her coma-stricken lover, given that he survives. The movie generated mostly positive reviews; Rajeev Masand wrote that "[d]espite its many script problems, it's a consistently watchable film that oozes with feeling and real emotion." On the other hand Kaif's performance attracted a mixed reception; in one review, Rohit Vats published that "Meera's role was a difficult one and Katrina falls short in emotional scenes. It seems Katrina still doesn't feel very easy in front of the camera and has difficulty with complex expressions. But boy she can dance!" Commercially, the film proved a box office hit.

3. Kaif has finished work on the third installment of the Dhoom franchise, Dhoom 3 , which is set for a release in December 2013. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film will see Kaif star as a gymnast alongside Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra. She is currently filming for Siddharth Anand's action comedy Bang Bang, opposite Hrithik Roshan, as well as Kabir Khan's post 26/11 counter-terrorism drama Phantom with Saif Ali Khan. Kaif has also been signed on for Anurag Basu's comedy-mystery film Jagga Jasoos (alongside Ranbir Kapoor) and Abhishek Kapoor's adaptation of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations entitled Fitoor, where she will play a role based on the character of Estella Havisham opposite Aditya Roy Kapur.
