About Kangana Ranaut

Kangana ranaut  born 23 March 1987 is an Indian actress who appears mostly in Hindi films. She made her acting debut in 2006 with a leading role in Gangster. She won a Filmfare as well as a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as a troubled model in Fashion (2008) and subsequently featured in commercially successful films such as Raaz – The Mystery Continues (2009), Once Upon A Time In Mumbai (2010), Tanu Weds Manu (2011), Double Dhamaal (2011), Shootout at Wadala (2013), and Krrish 3 (2013).

Early life

Ranaut was born in a Rajput family to Asha Ranaut, a school teacher, and Amardeep Ranaut, a businessman. She has an elder sister, Rangoli and a younger brother, Akshit. Her family lives in Mandi. She completed her schooling in Dehradun. After a few months of college, she moved to Delhi to become a model and joined the Elite Modelling Agency in 2003.

Career

Ranaut started her career as a theatre actor in Delhi with Asmita Theatre Group. She trained under eminent theatre director Arvind Gaur. She participated in his theatre workshop at India Habitat Centre and acted in several plays. Her first play with Arvind Gaur was Girish Karnad's Taledanda (Rakt-Kalyan). Ranaut joined Asha Chandra's course in 2004 to brush herself to face the camera.

Debut and breakthrough in films, 2006-present

2006:- Ranaut moved to Mumbai to try her luck in movies. In September 2005, Anurag Basu spotted her in a cafe in Mumbai, and offered her the lead role in Gangster. Released in 2006, the film became critically and commercially successful and her performance was especially applauded. This was followed by another acclaimed performance in Woh Lamhe, which also released in 2006.

2007:- Ranaut starred in Anurag Basu's Life In A... Metro. Her performance in the film earned her rave reviews. That same year she also starred in Shakalaka Boom Boom as an aspiring singer.

2008:- Her next film, Fashion, starring Priyanka Chopra and Mugdha Godse, was released in 2008. The film, portraying the dark side of the fashion world, was a critical success, and Ranaut's portrayal of a supermodel who loses everything to drugs gained her widespread praise, fetching her various awards, including a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film further became a commercail success as well despite competiition.

2009:- Ranaut appeared in the thriller Raaz – The Mystery Continues with Emraan Hashmi. The movie became a commercial success and was declared the first reasonable hit of 2009. Rediff wrote,"Kangana puts in a great performance, one, I admit, I didn't know she was capable of. Her scenes when she gets possessed, as well as when she walks the ramp, are brilliant."

2010:- Kangna was seen in a guest appearance opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kites and also starred in a leading role alongside Ajay Devgan in one of the year's most successful outings Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. Ranaut also appeared in Knock Out and No Problem which were both critical and commercial failures.

2011:- Ranaut with R. Madhavan at a promotional event for Tanu Weds Manu, 2011. Her first release of 2011 was Tanu Weds Manu opposite R. Madhavan, a romantic comedy that proved to be successful at the box office. Along with Ajay Devgan, Zarine Khan and Arbaaz Khan, Ranaut made a special appearance in Anees Bazmee's highly successful comedy Ready, which starred Salman Khan and Asin Thottumkal in lead roles. 

She was next seen in the multistarrer Double Dhamaal, the sequel of Dhamaal, which emrged as a moderate success at the box office. Ranaut later appeared in Rascals alongside Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, which opened to a good response at the box office, however became a commercial and critical failure. She also appeared in Miley Naa Miley Hum which failed to do well at the box office.

2012:- Ranaut once again appeared alongside Ajay Devgan in Tezz, which was a major failure at the box office. She appeared inShootout At Wadala alongside John Abraham and Anil Kapoor. Though her role was not big, she received positive reviews. Komal Nahta wrote, "Kangana Ranaut may not have a key role but she, nevertheless, performs ably."

2013:- Ranaut featured in Krrish 3 with Hrithik Roshan, priyanka chopra and Vivek Oberoi. Upon release, the film and her performance met with positive critical response. Mohar basu of Koimoi stated," Kangana easily topples as the film’s most striking female character. As the wicked slimy chameleon Kaya, she puts up a devilish show indeed! Making her character look extremely sexy, in her bits she owns the film!". The film opened strongly at the box office as well collecting over INR48 crore (US$7.7 million) just within two days of release despite the pre-Diwali period.

2014: She is apprearing in "Queen" her upcoming movie this year.

Madhuri comeback to Bollywood

In 90s Madhuri Dixit, held sway over the audience and box-office as she was one of Bollywood's superstar-actresses. She comeback movie "Aaja Nachle". After that she work on small screen, with the reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa".

Come 2014, Madhuri Dixit  is set to revive her Bollywood career with 'Dedh Ishqiya' and 'Gulaab Gang'.

Madhuri is a passionate dancer, and to do her due for the society and her fans, she opened her online dance academy.

Currently, she is working on Gulaab gang a film based on the life of social-activist Sampat Pal and her group Gulabi Gang. Gulaab Gang has been written and directed by Soumik Sen and also stars Juhi Chawla and Tannishtha Chatterjee.

Hasse Toh Phasee

Hasse Toh Phasee creating lots of interest as it is promoted to be the biggest romantic movie of this year 2014. The Promo of the movie has already created a fizzle. You can’t stop a foot tapping dance number from the movie. The title track of the song spells it out as a Punjabi Wedding Song. The name of the movie itself is full of energy and a certain feel of the Punjabi state. The song is a bizarre mixture of English and Punjabi languages written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and Kumar.

The Pun-lish (Combo of Punjabi and English) is evident in the below mentioned lyrics of the song.
“Nothing like my jatt mahiya
Nothing like my mutiyaara
Nothing like some kangna-shangna
And loung da lashkara
Buggi te wuggi main gidda gholna”

The lead actors of the movie, Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra are beautifully choreographed in the song. The hero is seen in a fun filled mood who tries to take advantage of the joyous background but it is Parineeti who steals the show with her impeccable performance and doesn’t let the viewers take away their eyes from her. The onscreen couple exhibits good understanding of each other and nice chemistry in between.

However, the chemistry between the lead pair is not as intense as it is in the other song, ‘Zehnaseeb’. Rightly so, as ‘Zehnaseeb’ is a song that completely focuses on the relation of the two but the ‘Punjabi Wedding Song’ is different and is more about fun and frolic.


The famous duo of Vishal and Shekhar has composed the music for the ‘Punjabi Wedding Song’ while Benny Dayal and Sunidhi Chauhan have lent their voices to the song. The team effort has yielded wonderful result. A number such as this is a trademark of any Karan Johar film but what make this number stand out are the unique lyrics and the dancing performance of the lead actors.

The film ‘Hasee toh Phasee’ is all set to release on 7th February 2014. It is directed by Vinil Mathew and produced by Karan Johar along with Anurag Kashyap. It seems Parineeti Chopra is all set to earn her next big hit and will rule the hearts of million fans if the trailer of the movie is the indication of the things to come. We wish her all the best in the year 2014.

Dedh Ishqiya Review

Much Better than Previous "Ishqiya"

Director Abhishek Chaubey tells a story very tact and artfully, but with little impact. The real chemistry between Madhuri Dixit and Naseeruddin Shah, not for the actor’s incompetence, but for writer and director’s lack in building it up in the screenplay. More palpable are the vibes between Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi. 

The songs (Vishal Bhardwaj) keep popping in at regular intervals without bothering one much.

Dedh Ishqiya is a story about goes on between a love-struck Khalujaan (Naseeruddin Shah), a lust-struck Babban (Arshad Warsi), a mystical Begum Para (Madhuri Dixit) and her sly sidekick Muniya (Huma Qureshi). 

The consummate scoundrel Babban is out to retrieve a stolen necklace, Khalujan out to steal the Begum’s heart, and the nominal Begum has more skeletons than gems in her cupboard.

Throw in a smitten gunda disguising himself as Nawab (Vijay Raaz) to win the Begum’s love and you have a tale of intrigue within intrigue, wheels within wheels, honking its way through mushairas, run-down havelis, crowded baazars, all the way to a desolate railway station for a culmination into gunplay where not a single bullet finds its target.

It’s the dark humour and the performances by the entire ensemble that make Dedh Ishqiya eminently watchable. Madhuri Dixit is still a heart-stopper, particularly when she shows those wonderful dance moves of hers. Naseeruddin Shah is a master actor who knows well not to overplay his hand, shaking or firm. He keeps switching from the decorous, poetic Nawab Iftikhar to the scheming Khalujan with the ease of a veteran. Arshad Warsi is clearly the scene stealer here, given the funniest lines that he cracks with aplomb. Huma Qureshi is the cunning seductress who strings Arshad along and then tosses him aside like ash off a cigarette. Vijay Raaz is verily loathsome (as intended) as the cocky Nawab with the manners of a lout.

Dedh Ishqiya takes the viewer into poetic reverie with some thoughtful couplets from Bashir Badr and with equal flourish it smacks in the obscene expletives.

Yaariyan Movie Review

Directed by debutante director Divya Kumar Khosla, who also happens to be the wife of producer of the film and T-Series  head honcho Bhushan Kumar, Yaariyan is a college based romance adventure. The story is about five friends who are exploring the best moments of their lives in college, experiencing different relationships and learning new values every day.

Performance-wise too, the movie leaves you wanting. Professional stars like Deepti Naval and Gulshan Grover are reduced to nothing more than mere caricatures - with no roles and limp sketchy parts. The young actors are pretty.

The first half of Yaariyan is pretty good. Good comic punches, great music and decent performances make it worth watching. During their journey they learnt lessons from their mistakes and relationships, bond with friends and understand the value of commitment. The movie is about different characters, their bonding, friendship, problems, fun, mistakes and relations. It is about their friendship during good and bad times. It is all about your first love, first break-up, first outbursts and strong bonds of friendships.

Movie Review: Being a small budget movie, the movie features new faces. Though it doesn’t have big star cast or lavish locations, Yaariyan has a fresh story. The music of Yaariyan has already become hit among the youth. Divya Khosla Kumar tries a lot to make it a good watch but somehow she fails to do so. The story takes few twists and turns that are too filmy to believe. Whatever the flaws the move has, it gives a very fresh feeling.
